The Clean Tech Seed Grant Program, developed in coordination with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) is aimed at helping new jersey based early-stage clean tech/clean energy companies accelerate development and innovation of clean technologies to transform new discoveries from research stage into commercially viable technologies, leading to industry and investor interest.
The objectives of the Clean Tech Seed Grant Program (Round 3) are to:
PROGRAM DETAILS
The goal of the Program is to help New Jersey-based early stage clean tech/clean energy companies accelerate development and innovation of clean technologies to transform new discoveries from research stage into commercially viable technologies, leading to industry and investor interest.
The Program is for companies developing or testing clean technologies intended to avoid emissions of, or recapture, greenhouse gases and/or criteria pollutants, or to enable such avoidance or recapture in the following target areas:
- Chemicals/Advance Materials
- Energy Distribution/Storage
- Energy Efficiency
- Energy Generation
- Green Buildings
- Transportation
- Waste Processing
- Water and Agriculture
All applicants for the Program should be between a minimum technology development level of Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 2 (applied research) to TRL 7 (Full-scale, similar (prototypical) system demonstrated in relevant environment), based on the Department of Energy definitions.
Qualified applicants can receive up to $75,000 in grants through the Clean Tech Seed Grant Pilot Program and the total funding for the third pilot program is $1,500,000. The funding is being provided through NJBPU’s Clean Energy Program.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Each Applicant to the Clean Tech Seed Grant Pilot Program must meet the following eligibility criteria at the time of application and throughout the review process:
- Authorized and in good standing to conduct business in New Jersey as evidenced by a New Jersey current New Jersey tax clearance certificate
- Have no more than 50 full-time equivalent (“FTE,” calculated on a 35-hour work week) workers at time of application
- Have a minimum of one (1) full-time worker (calculated on a 35-hour work week). A founder can be counted as a worker; a worker may be paid or unpaid
- 50% or more of the cumulative hours worked by all workers, founders, and contractors in New Jersey calculated on a full-time equivalent basis of 35 hours per week
- Have less than or equal to $5,000,000 in prior calendar year sales revenue (excluding grant revenue)
New eligibility criteria for Round 3 of the Program are:
- Applicants are limited to a single application
- Recipients of two or more active CSIT Seed or Demonstration Grants are ineligible for this Program
